SASAE Webinar Success

During the course of the past 3 months the South African Society for Agricultural Extension has held three successful webinars via Zoom. The first webinar which was held on the 16th September 2020 hosted Dr Norma Samuel as the Keynote speaker. Her amazing presentation on the role of agricultural extension and advisory services in sustainable food systems: A food systems approach gave interesting insight and new knowledge to many of the attendees. Along with this, the discussion held by the panellists (Prof Simon Letsoalo, Mr Adrianjafy Rasoanindrainy, Mr Gavilin Darries and Ms Mmatlou Selemela) were very intriguing.

The second webinar which was held on the 14th October 2020 was definitely a learning curve for the planning committee as it was something that hadn’t been done before. The idea behind this webinar was to have discussions between the participants in the breakout rooms, although technical difficulties were experienced this webinar was still a success. Dr Rashid Sulaiman V was the keynote speaker and presented on Professionalism towards the delivery of EAS to the last mile.

Dr Ben Matiwane, Ms Zanele Mkhize and Ms Simiphiwe Mngomezulu-Dube acted as facilitators during the breakout sessions and provided the guidance needed to steer the discussions.

Lastly, webinar three was held on the 18th November 2020, although attendance at this webinar was low, it was a very successful webinar that stimulated many discussions among the participants and panellists. Dr Mercy Akeredolu was the keynote speaker of the day and drove into the village of Mali to attend the webinar. Her keynote address on strengthening agricultural research and agricultural extension linkages provided some much-needed information and new knowledge. Along with this the panellist (Dr Jan Swanepoel, Dr Yusuf, Dr Mmantoa Kgaphola, Mr Patrick Ngcobo and Mr Neo Mashishi) provided some very interesting discussion points.

These webinars were a learning curve for the SASAE planning committee and would not have been such a success without the guidance and support from Dr Hlami Ngwenya. We at SASAE would like to thank you for everything you have done for SASAE.

We would also like to thank all our keynotes speakers, facilitators and panellists for their participation in these webinars. And lastly to all the attendees as no event can happen without your support and loyalty.
